My Practice

Going to get help can be a daunting experience.  For this reason, I provide a calm and grounded environment in which you can safely explore the difficulties you are experiencing.

Life can sometimes be so fast paced and stressful that it’s hard to even think straight.  Having that time to share your thoughts and emotions without being judged is an important part of the process of therapy.  Working together we will establish the areas of your life that you want to address/explore and set goals that we can achieve during our sessions.

I practice using the relational approach.  This simply means that the basis of my approach is focusing on the importance of the relationship between you the client and I the counsellor.  By building a strong working relationship, we will create the vehicle through which change will occur.  It is through relationships with others that we encounter difficulties and it is in these same relationships that we can affect positive change.  Working relationally and integratively also means that I can draw upon the many different approaches and choose the ones that resonate most with you.

Professional Bodies

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within their Ethical Framework.  The BACP is the professional body that sets the standard for therapeutic practice and provides information to the public.

To become a registered member I had to complete a BACP accredited course, whilst also agreeing to work within their ethical framework.  Additionally, I undertake regular supervision to ensure I am working safely and ethically and also agree to completing 30 of hours of continuous professional development every year.

Experience

I have previously worked at Cruse Bereavement and Barca Leeds.  Cruse is the leading national charity for people bereaved in England.  Barca is a charity based in West Leeds which provides counselling to those experiencing moderate to severe, complex mental and emotional health issues. After these experiences I felt ready to embark in private practice and have never looked back.

I have also worked as a volunteer at the Samaritans.
